IIE WELCOMES NEW VOLUNTEER TO HELP STUDENTS WITH APPLICATION PROCESS

IIE-Hanoi is pleased to announce the timely arrival of our new volunteer, Dr. Virginia Visconti, during the most exciting time of the year. As application deadlines are soon approaching, Dr. Visconti will be offering students free advice on college and university applications, especially the essay writing process.

Virginia Visconti holds a dual Ph.D. in social-cultural anthropology and education policy studies and a M.A.T. in English from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, USA. With the assistance of a Fulbright Scholarship, Dr. Visconti conducted ethnographic fieldwork for her dissertation among farming households and communities in Thai Nguyen Province, Viet Nam from 2000-2001. She has more than ten years of higher education experience with an emphasis on teaching, administration, and research. Currently, Dr. Visconti is an instructor at the Hanoi School of Public Health.

Union College of Schenectady, New York, is a non-denominational, independent, selective liberal arts college in New York's Capital District. The College offers nearly 1,000 courses--a range that is unusual among America's highly-selective colleges--and places strong emphasis on undergraduate research and international study. The student population of 2,100 full-time undergraduates, with nearly equal numbers of men and women, comes from 40 different U.S. states and 20 foreign countries.

Brittany Miller is a third year political science major at Union College. She is currently studying in Hanoi with a group of American Students from Union and Hobart &William Smith. Outside of class, she works as an intern at IIE-Hanoi office.

Josh Glasser, UNC-Chapel Hill ‘06

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is the oldest public university in the United States. It was founded in 1793. It has highly respected programs in Arts and Sciences, Law, Medicine, Public Health, Urban & Regional Planning, Government, Education, and Journalism, among others. It is located in Chapel Hill, a town of about 60,000 in the heart of North Carolina's "research triangle" region.

Josh Glasser is a Fulbright Student living in Hanoi and doing an independent research project on microcredit, migration, and social stability in rural Vietnam. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2006. He previously worked as a field organizer for the American nonprofit organization, Common Cause North Carolina.
